Faith Over Feelings
“This I recall to my mind, Therefore have I hope.”
Lamentations 3:21
Oh what a wonderful day, what a joyous life we GET to live! New daily mercies, great faithfulness, a good Lord.
I’m reminded that when we focus with a perspective of gratitude, the urgent feelings of the heart fade away and the established hope of faith remains. Recall the things of the Lord to mind:
In discouragement remember how He has made Himself known to you.
In fear, remember His perfect love for you.
In worry, remember the control He has over all things.
The same God Who holds all of the universe, Heavens and Earth, together… holds you.
Our feelings ebb and flow, so praise God for our salvation, our well-being, our life, they aren’t based on how we feel one moment or the next. We have to put aside the feelings of the flesh, the quick thoughts of the heart, and be established in truth. For that is what our faith is, evidence-based.
Over and over again in scripture we see this challenge of turning our eyes upon Jesus. Peter, through the stormy waves, had his eyes set on Christ Jesus, until he didn’t. When we have that beautiful image of childlike trust and awe in our Lord, we truly are safe. I love that that deeply… safe in Jesus.
The very One Who set aside glory that He might love us fully in self-sacrifice, continues to love us richly with His Spirit. The same Spirit which rose Him from the dead now lives in us. If that Spirit can raise the Son of God from the dead and bear the weight of all sin, cleansing all who believe and in Him as Lord, don’t you think that the same Spirit can free you from all feelings?
The life we are given by Jesus Christ calls for nothing less than to radiate from our every step. All that we do must be unto the Lord, everything we have is owed a response of gratitude and praise, and all who we meet must receive the very love we have from Jesus.
Keep your faith over your feelings. Why rest in something that is uncontrollable, changes hour by hour, and not rest in the cornerstone of eternity? Life is but a vapor, Jesus is forever!
