Get a Move on and Press On

A new semester, a new opportunity

A new semester, a new school year, a new time, a new day.

Many college campus ministers find themselves lingering on the memories of the past school years. They might think to themselves, "we were able to reach seventy students at our peak last fall semester!" Even after such encouraging milestones some quickly become discouraged, continuing, "but that spring semester took a dip in attendance. What could we have done wrong?" This semester, have a conversation with God and make it a goal that you will not look back at the past but forward towards what God has in store!

Get a move on and press on!

Paul, when speaking to the church in Philippi, compares the Christian walk to running a race. He encourages the church saying,
"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14
In this passage of Scripture Paul finishes telling the Philippians the value of Christ in comparison to the values of the world. When Paul was in the world as a prominent leader, everything he had desired to gain now was worth nothing to him in the cause of Christ. There was no previous achievement, no previous struggle, no worldly accomplishment worth even being compared to the riches of everlasting life in Christ. Paul encourages the audience to leave it all behind, to forget the things which are behind, and, as an athlete commits to the race before him, press on forward!

In the college ministry, we too, must be committed to the now. Be committed to what the Lord has set before you. We must forget the things of the past, get a move on, and press on! Yes, difficulties occur, but they are nothing to be compared to the call which we have of bringing forth the Word of God to a generation in need of Him. Do not let the disappointments of the past keep you from serving fully this semester and this school year.

The fall semester began recently for many campuses across America. Take this time and purpose in your heart as a leader that you will not dwell on the highs of the past nor the lows of the past but that you will press on towards what the Lord has for right now and this semester!

It is exciting to see the opportunities set before us as thousands of students from all places are gathered in one location. Many are willing to hear the good news of Jesus, will you take it to them? Bring forth the Gospel to these students, press on towards the mark, get a move on and press on!
